We are excited to announce the first book Excursion of ExudeU! Every successful traveler knows the value of a good Atlas. So, for our spring excursion, we have chosen Atlas of the Heart, the most recent work of social psychology researcher Brené Brown, to be our guide on the path to understanding the internal world of our emotions. In the introduction to the book, Brené tells us that through this book, she wants to “open up a language portal to help us find a universe where we can share the stories of our bravest and most heartbreaking moments with others in a way that builds connection.”
In this eight-week excursion, we will discuss two chapters each week, visiting each of the eighty-seven emotional places we go throughout the course of living our daily lives. The hope is that by being able to name our emotions/experiences (past and present), we can then process each emotion and experience in ways that are both productive and healing.
If you’re ready to explore the internal world of emotions and deepen your emotional vocabulary, this excursion is for you!
Process
Weekly Zoom sessions will take place on Monday nights from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET. In preparation for each session (except the first one), participants will read two chapters of the book and reflect in writing on one to two emotions. Sessions will include review of the emotions and discussion to better understand the nuances of each emotion.
Participants will need to buy the book and should choose a journal or notebook in which to reflect on emotions. An emotional navigation fill-in chart will be available as a free download for use throughout the excursion.
